The AANCART team compromises of the Center Steering Committee, an External Advisory Board, a Community Advisory Group, our three principal investigators, a program evaluator, and four cores: admin, outreach, research and training.
The Administrative Core is the fulcrum for the Center and provides the leadership structure with its three PIs, program leaders, and organizational infrastructure for AANCART: The National Center and is physically located at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, a NCI-designated cancer center. Included in this Core are the Center Steering Committee and the Community Advisory Committee. This Core will assure synchronization of all activities.
The Community Outreach Program, led by Angela Sun Ph.D., M.P.H. and May Sung, M.P.H., is the vehicle for orchestrating the Center’s health promotion and educational activities. This Program concentrates its efforts in California and Hawaii and in particular emphasizing Asian Americans of Chinese, Filipino, Hmong, Korean, and Vietnamese ancestry through culturally competent venues in both English and Asian languages.
The Research Program is the engine driving the controlled intervention trial and the pilot study. Tung Nguyen, M.D., who is also the PI of an R01 with an RCT studying colorectal cancer screening among Chinese Americans, is directing our innovative controlled trial involving three Asian American ethnic populations in three sites. Susan Stewart, Ph.D., AANCART’s Biostatistical Director and Program Evaluator since 2003 will continue her outstanding role in providing research design expertise.
The Training Program, led by Marjorie Kagawa-Singer, Ph.D., M.S.N., FAAN of Los Angeles and Shin-Ping Tu, M.D., M.P.H. of Seattle, will nurture new investigators in CBPR.
